Low Cost Motorcycle Insurance

Motorcycle insurance is offered by most of the big insurance companies that cover motor vehicles as well as some smaller ones that only offer motorcycle, moped, or scooter insurance.. No matter what kind of bike you're riding whether its a racing bike, moped, custom motor bike, vintage two-wheeler, or even a Harley, low cost motorcycle insurance is available for the right price.

The most important thing to look for when searching for discount motorcycle insurance is to make sure the type of coverage will protect you from debt in unfortunate case of an accident or harm to an individual. Rates for this type of insurance vary person by person.

The factors you should be aware of that affect the rate that you will receive are your age, age of bike, and your driving record (accidents and so forth). Brand new motorcycles will result in higher premiums than older bike models, just like auto insurance. If you want a lower rate you would be better off picking an older motorcycle. Several other factors can also affect your premium like your location, the average usage of the bike and how well you keep it maintained. Rural areas often have lower costs for their motorcycle insurance because of less wear and tear on the bike and less traffic which results in lower risks. Occasional use motorcycles can also receive a discount on their insurance over other bikes which are used daily such as going to work.

You are much more likely to get a better deal on your motorcycle insurance if you are an older individual but not if you are an inexperienced rider. Insurance companies will consider you on par with a young rider until you get some experience under your belt. If you have a great driving record, it is very likely you will receive discounted motorcycle insurance. They look at your driving record for not only motorcycles, but also your car driving record. If you have good marks in both you are almost guaranteed a low rate on your motorcycle insurance.

Discount Motorcycle Insurance Rates

It is a smart investment to get insurance for things you own. You wouldn't go without insurance for your car, house, or boat would you? The same concept applies to motorcycle insurance. Even if you think that insurance companies are evil you still have to be covered by law. Also if you're in an accident, do you really want to pay for medical bills or repair costs out of pocket? I didn't think so.

Insurance works like this: the big insurance companies bet on the odds of you getting into an accident (how much they have to pay out vs how much you pay in) and set your premiums so that it is always higher than what they have to pay out. If you want to avoid paying out high premiums it will depend on how you handle your motorcycle insurance.

If you stick to the terms agreed upon with your insurance company, you are pretty much assured that you and your motorcycle will be safe. It is true that you will almost always end up paying the insurance companies more than what you get from them, but consider how much you would have to pay upfront in an accident and not only that but its required by law so you might as well try and get the best coverage you can while also getting the cheapest motorcycle insurance you can. Yes you pay a fairly large chunk of change every month but you can also sleep better at night knowing you're covered in-case anything ever goes wrong.

The best way to find cheap motorcycle insurance is to get a plan that offers deductibles based on the damages incurred. This will lower you monthly bill by quite a bit if you can afford a little out of pocket expense when an accident occurs. If you think about it, compared to home and car insurance, motorcycle insurance really isn't that bad.

So how much should your deductibles be for motorcycle insurance? I will give you an example that will hopefully illustrate my point. OK let's say your premiums are in the range of $400-$700. This is not too bad for most companies. If you go with a deductible plan insurance companies will often reduce rates by 25% or more. So if your damages incurred were over $10,000 than a premium of $700 would mean that you pay only $700 of that and your insurance covers the rest. That's quite a bit of savings if you think about it. So remember you can get affordable cheap motorcycle insurance that is not only required by law but also saves you a bunch of cash.

Hi jasonhelms: Really usefull article, I think you covered most of the things that affect your insurnace rate. The points you talk about when it comes to the price its a dilemma that people have to decide for them self. As you said that if you have a bit of cash that you can pay if you get into an accident you can have a lower monthly price, but if you don't it will be a higher monthly price. Its something that people have to decide for themself based on their situation

Whether you are buying an old or new model, you still have to consider the overall condition of the motorcycle. Do not disregard this since you will be the one who will take the whole responsibility of your purchase in case you have bought an ill-maintained motorcycle. a. Check the body of the bike carefully for signs of rust or poor maintenance. Peeling paintwork with tape on the seat signifies repairs done on the bike. b. The tires should have thread on them, as motorcycle tires cost more than car tires.
